Information

For Clients:

Medicare Rebates

Clients are eligible to see a psychologist for up to 10 sessions within each calendar year.

Eligibility is based on the diagnosis given to you by your GP. Your GP is required to
complete a Mental Health Care Plan and can make a referral to Briony Kercheval, MAPS. Progress will be reviewed by your GP after your first six sessions, whereby an additional four sessions can be obtained.

Seeking help for any psychological issue can often be a stressful, anxiety-provoking experience and may bring about a range of emotions. Therefore, finding the right psychologist for you is really important.  Feeling comfortable and at ease within a couple of sessions with your psychologist will enable you to develop trust and rapport. You’ll then be in a position to work in a collaborative way to ensure your needs and goals are being met, and the changes you hope to achieve in your life (as a result of therapy) are much more likely. Your satisfaction with therapy will be reviewed throughout the process.

Appointments run for approximately 50 minutes.

For General Practitioners:

Following assessment and a referral by a General Practitioner (GP), clients can access up to 10 Medicare rebates for individual sessions with a psychologist within a 12-month period (an additional 6 sessions can be accessed in exceptional circumstances).

What does a GP need to do?

1.     Complete a Mental Health Care Plan
2.     Make a referral to the treating psychologist
3.     Review progress by conducting a Mental Health Care Plan Review

A review is conducted after the client has attended their first 6 sessions.

Briony Kercheval will write a progress report to assist the GP in reviewing the client after six sessions.  Following this review, the client is able to continue their psychological treatment for a further four sessions with Briony Kercheval.
